Are You Winning Your Unique Super Bowl… Called Life?

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward;

you can only connect them looking backwards.

.

So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.”

― Steve Jobs

Are you actually committed to elevating your life; while feeling overwhelmingly blessed every day of your journey?

Learning from people, who you are not, such as nurses, songwriters, women or men, etc., … especially the Top-Performers in their respective group, can be an eye-opening, educational experience!

The key, is to identify transferrable knowledge… that enables you to optimize performance in your life; professionally and personally!

If you are… or are not… a sports fan, there is much you can learn from the Big Game… that can be used in everyday life and relationships! Let’s delve into two opportunities.

Misery – 30 Teams (out of 32) didn’t even make it to the Big Game. That’s a 94% failure rate. In life… a 94% failure rate seems to be quite accurate… as miserable as that may sound… don’t let it stop you!

Professionally, out of 100 people submitting resumes, less than 1.0% will be hired. Personally, how many people will you date before you select one to share your soul… and they select you to share their soul? 1 Out of 10, 100 or more? Your failure rate is likely to be over 95%. Keep an open heart!

The Simple Lesson:  Sure, the journey can be miserable at times, so learn to love the journey and keep putting in the work on yourself, all life long! Although this effort will improve the probability, for your unique definition of success, it doesn’t guarantee it. Just ask the Bengals!

pexels-alex-green-5700192
pexels-amina-10230612

Amazing – Only 1 team (out of 32) stands alone in victory at the end of the season! In life… beautiful victories can take your breath away as you bask in the stunningly amazing emotions from your hard-fought efforts. Be that relentless warrior who tastes the elegant, soul nourishing victories in the Game of Life!

Professionally, you earned that promotion, won that contract, etc. Personally, you were just being 100% imperfect you… and another soul appreciated you, with all your scars, to feel privileged to rest their head on the pillow next to you… for eternity! Celebrate you and your team!

The Simple Lesson:  You can choose to pursue “Good Enough” and just fit into the mediocre crowd… or pursue Unorthodoxly Amazing. Sure; most people won’t understand your unorthodox choices… just as many didn’t understand the high cost for L.A. to acquire Matt Stafford… then again, they will never understand Uniquely Amazing You… Wonderful!

.

Q:  What do all winning teams have?

A:  Imperfect, amazing coaches!

In the Game of Life, coaching for specific, jugular decisions

such as career choices or more holistically,

for improving your professional, personal and community life…

could be one of the best investments you make… in YOU!

Have You Worked for a “Knuckle Dragger”?

“Losers take pride in being a bully

Knuckle dragger who’s preying on the weak

2022-02-a- Neanderthal-Evolution

Does, or has, a Neanderthal lead your organization, division or area?

Have you ever been (or still are) in a personal relationship with a Neanderthal?

How do you get Neanderthals to stop making Knuckle Dragging decisions?

The easy answer… it’s 2022… 99% of Knuckle Draggers aren’t likely to change in their lifetime… except possibly on a temporary basis, if they absolutely have to, in order to not lose their power or forfeit something of value to them (e.g. stock options, bonuses, getting work done that can’t get done without you, etc.)

Most Knuckle Draggers will try everything else first, before they’ll entertain the possibility of evolving. Professionally, here’s a few Knuckle Dragger practices, they use to overcome self-induced problems, and enable themselves to avoid, having to actually evolve to an upright posture (i.e. positively change).

.

1 – High Turnover – They’ll ramp up their hiring process to get as many people with a 98.6 degree body temperature in the queue to replace the people with more than 5 brain cells, who leave.

2 – Employees Who Speak Up – They’ll quarantine those who threaten their stone-age, status quo thinking, to mitigate the possibility, of you revealing, “the Emperor has no clothes”.

pexels-anete-lusina-6353753
pexels-gustavo-fring-4149070

3 – Critically Necessary Positions Unfilled – They’ll create artificial, temporary position titles to pay people marginally more, while retaining employees to do what is critical for the business’s current (not long-term) financial success.

.

Examples include:

  • Changing the title “Supervisor” to “Manager” (while they still do the Supervisor’s job)
  • Moving a frontline employee to “Trainer” (while 95% of the time they’re doing frontline work)
  • Providing interim leadership positions in order to get critical projects done and then returning most employees to their original job… with the valuable (in their eyes only, not your eyes) “atta boy / girl”!

Bailing Knuckle Draggers out of their self-generated manure piles in their rock caves… isn’t easy!

.

Thus; it’s critical for you to be able to quickly and accurately identify,

when you are interviewing with an organization or manager,

how to identify and accurately differentiate the

Knuckle Draggers from Open-Minded Top Leaders!

.

Coaching for specific, jugular decisions such as career choices or for

holistically improving your professional, personal and community life…

could be one of the best investments you make… in YOU!

Are You an Intelligent Flight Risk in Relationships?

“Holistically talented people are the only ones who are intelligent flight risks in relationships.

However; when you share passion, appreciation and unconditional love for them…

they’ll gladly remove their “propellers” while complementing the relationship

in Unorthodoxly Amazing ways!” – James Roncevich

pexels-pixabay-264416

The operative word in the title of this blog is, “Intelligent”!

Many (93% +/-) people are “Flight Risks” in relationships for less-than-stellar (a.k.a. unintelligent) reasons.

Are you one of those 93% mainstream members… or… are you a Top-7%’er?

Here are at least 3 types of relationships in which you, or others, can be considered a “Flight Risk”?

1) Professional – Employee / Employer – The worst cultures… know they are the worst! Rather than improving, it’s easier (and the only thing within their realm of competency) for them to preach an “everybody’s replaceable” culture.

.

Actually improving, would require much better leadership. This “un-change approach” helps them camouflage their short-comings. When you eventually divorce them… it doesn’t hurt them as much, since it’s merely their self-fulfilling prophesy.

The best cultures appreciate your talents, help you succeed and will even help you pursue success outside their organizations. Thus; they are appreciating you holistically; which paradoxically, is the most effective way to mitigate your Flight Risk. Why would exception talent leave an awesome environment?

pexels-cytonn-photography-955395
pexels-анна-хазова-6037685

2) Personal – Significant Other – The worst relationships constantly thread in a blend of thinly veiled or blunt “I’m leavings”, Self-Centered Decision Making (vs. We Decision Making) and “you need to ______” without actually helping / supporting you to ______.

The best relationships center on wanting, vs. needing, to be in the relationships. The concept of “completing someone” is laughable. The linchpin for successful relationships is a combination of passion, appreciation and unconditional love for each other.

.

Many of the most amazing relationships appear unorthodox

to the 93% Mainstream Crowd.

The antithesis of this linchpin combination is a cloaked passion, appreciation and love for the lifestyle, vs. the person. For many, the lifestyle is what keeps people together; while the person is a “good enough” component of the packaged deal.

What’s not to like about a beautiful home, vacations, 5-Star meals, house cleaning services, new cars, etc., and a “good enough” partner? What happens when the lifestyle changes?

Only the Top-7%’ers know the glaring, chasmic difference

between lifestyle-centered… and partner-centered… relationships!

pexels-julia-m-cameron-6995301

3) Community – Volunteer – The worst relationships treat you like a doormat and try to guilt you into doing things you don’t believe are the best use of your talents. Further, you’ll often find yourself doing things, that the paid, W-2 employees at the Non-Profit… just don’t want to do (or they want to do less of it)!

The best community relationships embolden you to genuinely commit to making a difference while utilizing the optimal potential of your Talent Portfolio… whether that’s connecting with corporate donors, delivering food to the hungry, etc.!

Thus; we reach the proverbial, “fork in the road”!

Are you a Top-7%’er… or…

a Mainstream-93%’er?

We get, but one life. Choose wisely!

Professionally, personally or in your community, have you ever…

“… poured it on and I poured it out

I tried to show you just how much I care

I’m tired of words and I’m too hoarse to shout”

But… your employer, significant other or the Non-Profit you’re sharing your talents with… just didn’t appreciate you… and you finally realized…

.

“…you’ve been cold to me so long

I’m crying icicles instead of tears”

This week’s blog, in tribute to MeatLoaf, will incorporate lyrics from his song,

written by Jim Steinman, “Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad”

.

Often, your employer, significant other or the Non-Profit, all they can tell you is…

“I want you, I need you

But-there ain’t no way I’m ever gonna love you

Now don’t be sad

‘Cause two out of three ain’t bad”

So, for you… when is it, that, “2 out of 3 ain’t bad”?

“You’ll never find your gold on a sandy beach

You’ll never drill for oil on a city street

I know you’re looking for a ruby in a mountain of rocks

But there ain’t no Coup de Ville hiding at the bottom

Of a Cracker Jack box”

If you’re pursuing a rare, Unorthodoxly Amazing lifeunfortunately, this rare type of life is closer to 1 out of a million… and some relationships, just may be closer to 1 out of a billion… sadly, yet appropriately, not 2 out of 3!

Warning: Your Soul Can Be Sold… But, Not Leased!

“If you sell your soul to get ahead it will cost more than you bargained for. When you earn your success and never take something for nothing, no one can lay claim to what’s rightfully yours. My biggest investors, now deceased, ask nothing of me. They are the only ones I owe for a debt I can never repay; but it’s the only kind that will ever be worth carrying.”

― Carlos Wallace

pexels-savvas-stavrinos-814544

Many, throughout the years, after making a less-than-stellar decision, have uttered the phrase… “what else could I do?”!

Who am I to question your decisions… when you are the most qualified and only one accountable?

Unfortunately, we don’t get the option to only lease our Souls… but we can and many do, sell all or parts of them. How much will you get for the parts or all of your Soul… a fraction of the significantly higher price it’ll cost you, if you want to re-purchase what you’ve sold!

How many times have you “sold out” because it was convenient, fit into social norms or basically, was primarily for a self-serving decision in one way or another?

Here are several ways we can sell parts of our Souls.

  • Doing things at work that are self-benefitting, to the demise of others; or, it’s good for you, and you don’t really care how it impacts others.
  • Looking the other way, instead of stepping in, to help a relative, neighbor or stranger.
  • Climbing the organizational ladder, using people for rungs.
  • Leading a Non-Profit, primarily for your benefit (e.g., lifestyle quality, not needing to work as a middle manager in the private sector, etc.), vs. working in the Non-Profit primarily to support the Non-Profit’s mission even though the pay and conditions are less-than-attractive.
    1. This is particularly common when you see Non-Profits only raising enough money to hit their self-determined goal vs. the maximum amount they could raise to optimize the number of people they could help.

pexels-snapwire-618613
pexels-cottonbro-4669107

If you’re the CXO of a company, hospital, government or Non-Profit…

  • How much of your soul have you sold to get to your level?

  • What percent of the decisions you made during your ascent… primarily helped other people and not yourself?

  • If you were born in a developing country, vs. a first-world country… how likely would it be, that you would become a CXO in a large organization?

Q:  Who has the highest potential to positively change the world?

A:  Bluntly; people in positions of authority!

So… how do you “buy back” the parts of your soul you previously sold?

Just maybe…by genuinely

becoming a consistently exceptional, Purpose-Driven Selfless Leader!?!

What If You’re Wrong?

It is dangerous to be right in matters on which

the established authorities are wrong.

.

– Voltaire

pexels-andrea-piacquadio-3760790

There’s so, so, so much social media content about “liking” yourself!

Affirmation is the key content driver on most social media platforms, especially for growing your like-minded followers… and unfortunately, affirmations is also the key to leading a mediocre life!

However, information, not affirmation, is the key

to leading an Unorthodoxly Amazing life!

How can you close the gap between wanting affirmation, but ensuring you are also securing

objective, value-added information, in order to grow intelligently as a holistic leader?

A key, required competency, needed to separate yourself

from the mediocre crowd is… Conflict Resiliency!

Succinctly; the higher your Conflict Resiliency, the:

  • Higher your ability to attract exceptional people.
  • Stronger your ability to absorb new, especially unorthodox (non-main-stream thinking), knowledge.
  • Healthier your relationships, professionally and personally, with people who genuinely have your best interest in mind.

pexels-thirdman-5060978
pexels-liza-summer-6382698

Succinctly; the lower your conflict resiliency, the:

  • More likely, you’ll push back against highly knowledgeable people who don’t agree completely with you.
  • More likely, you’ll push the “I like me and don’t need you liking me approval” approach. (Exceptional people don’t need to utter these types of phrases.)
  • Lower your capacity to understand and consistently share Unconditional Love.

So… how do we improve our Conflict Resiliency and love being wrong more often?

  1. Start by attempting to objectively assess our current level and upside potential.
  2. Become more cognizant at recognizing our painful opportunities to improve.
  3. Practice developing and using questions to convert potentially new knowledge (not all, is worthwhile) into actionable improvement.
  4. Transition people out of, and new people into, our upgraded Inner-Circles.

Step 4 becomes a circular-developing practice that directly impacts and demonstrates our Holistic-DMQ (Decision Making Quality) and Conflict Resiliency!

Did You Stop Throwing Snowballs?

“The aging process has you firmly in its grasp… if you never get the urge to throw a snowball.”

.

– Doug Larson

pexels-arina-krasnikova-6012809

Honestly… have you been resting on your comfortable-enough lifestyle?

What happened to the person who used to throw snowball dreams in their younger days… when everyone told you, “your idea has less than a snowball’s chance in hell, of being successful”? But you threw your best snowball anyway!

Why did you pick that difficult university to study, while paying your own way?

Why did you work 60, 70 or more hours a week early in your career?

Was it only for self-centered reasons… or were you developing your talents so you could not only take care of yourself and your family… but also leverage your Talent Portfolio… to change a lot of other people’s lives?

Why do most people stop throwing snowballs in life? Many:

  • Believe their lives are “Good Enough”… really… how about Unorthodoxly Amazing?
  • Get tired of watching their snowballs melt halfway through hell!
  • Want to enjoy the fruits of their earlier hard work and coast, relax, etc.

What is your reason?

pexels-liza-summer-6383027
pexels-brett-sayles-4734936

Just maybe… what you’ve learned from all your earlier snowball throwing… is how

you can most likely get those snowball dreams all the way through hell!

If you’ve figured out “successful snowball throwing in life”… why not… also use

your knowledge, talent, connections, etc., to change 1,000’s of other people’s lives?

Why would you stop throwing snowballs at the height of your knowledge, influence, etc.?

December… a month full of happenings in most people’s lives.

How do you handle the wonderful, awful, unknowns and everything in-between?

Some are surrounded by wealthy friends…

while others are working hard to provide food for their children.

Some are enjoying paid vacation time relaxing…

while others are helping at food banks / Non-Profits on their days off.

Some are busy packing cars with numerous gifts…

while others are praying their older cars keep running.

Some are discussing how busy and chaotic their lives are…

while others are busy appreciating the privilege,

they have in their chaotic lives, to elevate other people’s lives.

Some are enjoying a comfortable lifestyle in superficial relationships that won’t survive future difficult times…

while other are enjoying not-always-comfortable lifestyles

Are You Hitting the Snooze Button in Life Too Often?

“Leadership is a privilege to better the lives of others.

.

It is not an opportunity to satisfy personal greed.”

~ Mwai Kibaki

pexels-brett-sayles-4734936

Privilege… what does this word mean to you?

How has and does privilege play out in opportunities availed to you?

Are opportunities all about hard work… or about privilege, coupled with hard work?

Controversial topic… absolutely… especially for those with the most privilege…

that package it as hard work!

Jamie Dimon, a well-known executive, was the keynote at one of the functions I attended. Sure, he’s one of the most comprehensively talented executives in the world, but he said something powerful… that had nothing to do with business… unless you have high Holistic-DMQ (Decision Making Quality). Here’s the paraphrase.

“If I was born in a developing country, instead of where I was born… none of you would even know my name.”

You can do the research on the exceptional opportunities consistently provided to him. Sure… he worked his ass off while having Sandy Weill, among others, as mentors at an early age. But… he also had the privilege to intelligently work hard.

pexels-chris-goodwin-32870
pexels-muhammadtaha-ibrahim-ma'aji-4959248

The well-known author (and my favorite), Malcolm Gladwell talks about his own rags‐to-riches story where his grandmother (Daisy Ford Nation), a Jamaican slave, was taken by William Ford as a concubine.

.

Think your life is difficult now? Imagine being a concubine to a white land owner in Jamaica back then, without any mental health days!

Long story short, Malcolm’s, grandfather was white and his grandmother was black. Why was this important? In Jamaica at that time, per Malcolm, black people weren’t allowed to be educated while brown people were able to be educated. Education opened the door for his mother, who was brown, which eventually led to privileges Malcolm secured through just being born, with no effort on his part.

We aren’t able to change our past… but appreciating the privileges we’ve been extended, through no effort on our part, I believe, is critically important for us to lead a Purpose-Driven Life!

The $100 Million Question: What will you do with the privileges and opportunities you’ve been blessed?

If you’re similar to most people… you’ll use it to enrich your personal life and the lives of your children and family. Thus; self-centered initiatives. Why not make your life easy… it’s quite popular and socially admired? Just take a look at social media. People just can’t pump out enough, “look at me”, “take care of yourself, you deserve it”, etc., content.

.

Meanwhile 6,000 children die every day from water-borne disease, women are abused by the 10’s of thousands, millions lack enough food, etc.

pexels-archit-rege-6756329

Unfortunately, this enriching one’s self, is also a wonderful formula for becoming rich with fool’s gold and

poor with the wealth that comes from leading a Purpose-Driven life… while still providing plenty for yourself.

In case you’re wondering, am I privileged? Absolutely… in many, many ways!

If you too realize how privileged you are… why not leverage your privilege to genuinely become wealthy in life?

Are you an Executive who realizes you’re privileged?

Why not utilize your privilege to significantly change 1,000’s of other people’s lives?

You have what you believe are great ideas, helpful feedback or support to offer.

Sounds positive and you’re confident it’ll help others, your relationships, etc. So you intelligently share them while getting yourself engaged and invested with the intent to help others and organizations succeed. This can take place professionally or personally. You really want to see them excel!

What happens? Often… pretty much nothing changes significantly!

What went wrong? Bad idea? Weak implementation? Unclear communication?

Nope! The En-Lightenment Illusion was hard at work, and you missed something extremely important.

The receiving person, executive, company, Non-Profit, etc., lacked the capacity to comprehend and implement your potentially valuable contribution!

Where’d you go wrong? You underestimated their ability to be enlightened to a new way of seeing opportunities… that could have been extremely beneficial to them or their organization.

Q:  How could they have missed it? This excellent

opportunity seems so obvious to you?

A:  The En-Lightenment Illusion!

pexels-cottonbro-3826681
pexels-lilartsy-8730085

Try giving Executives round wheels… who love square wheels and lack the capacity to be enlightened… and the round wheels will just be thrown in their huge and growing piles of (what they believe to be) unneeded ideas!

Again… it isn’t the other person’s, executive’s, company’s, Non-Profit’s misstep… it is your misstep.

You’ve failed (as I’ve done numerous times) to accurately

assess their En-Lightenment Quotient (ELQ).

Solution: Align your investments of time and resources more accurately with the recipient’s ELQ! The higher their ELQ… the more you should invest. The lower their ELQ… the less you should invest. Key… calibration of your Personal ELQ Meter!

If your investments are unappreciated, not understood, taken advantage of, etc., change you!

Personally… look at the people who you invest your time and resources into, starting with your partner and Inner-Circle. What is their ELQ? The higher their ELQ, the more “We” decisions will be made and the more shared successes will be created. Unfortunately, self-Centeredness is the enemy of ELQ!

Professionally… look at the people who resonate with your fresh, effective ideas and talent contributions. Low collaboration and lack of support… equals Low-ELQ! If you’re extremely creative, in a world where traditional thinking and doing are wide and deep… just understand that Low-ELQ is abundant.

.

Nonetheless… be a Catalyst for Positive Change by surrounding yourself with High-ELQ people!

.

Not convinced? Just research the most amazing marriages, Disney, Walton, etc.

.

Courteously jettison those in your life who demonstrate the attributes of Low-ELQ.

Are you a Top-Performer?

Does your employer genuinely appreciate your commitment and talents?

If you move heaven and earth for your employer to help them prosper, will they remember you a year later… or will your new boss be discovering your name for the first time?

How are your professional commitments meshing with your overall life goals as a person?

Bluntly… most of our waking hours are typically allocated to getting ready for work, working and then winding down from work.

Fast forward… in the final hour of your life, when you’re meeting your maker… and you’re asked… “What did you do with your life”?

  • What will you mention regarding your professional choices?
  • How many excuses for making the choices you “had to make”, will be supported by your maker?
  • How will you explain the percent of your talents you chose to use primarily for self-serving purposes; vs. helping others not blessed with your wonderful Talent Portfolio?

If you’re working in a large Non-Profit and not a National or International CXO … are you doing so because its more attractive than being a middle manager in a mid-to-large for-profit company?

If you’re working in the Non-Profit sector primarily because you say you genuinely believe in the mission… are you doing everything you can to provide:

  • Food for the hungry?
  • Shelter for the abused?
  • Homes for the orphans?
  • Etc.?

… or are you doing just enough traditional Non-Profit stuff to meet your basic goals, while looking good and feeling that you’re doing enough?

Here’s the Litmus Test:  If it was your family who didn’t have food… clean water… a home… or were being abused… would you try just a little harder while implementing new ways to raise money to help you and your family?

.

This is what others who are hurting and in real need… are counting on you to do!

Societies around the globe have observed the reality, that we’re not really all in this together. Sigh!

How do you think your maker sees this, “we’re all in this together” thing, when

that pops up during your final, personal meeting about how you spent your life?

What Imaginary Things are Stopping You?

How many invisible fences are surrounding your potential?

Are you acknowledging their presence?

What could you do… if you had no invisible, self-created fences?

.

In working with and meeting billionaires, CXO’s and others who are often, inaccurately characterized by society as “successful”… the question becomes… are they Meaningfully Successful? Further; are they reaching their potential for Meaningful Success? This begs the question… what is “Meaningful Success”?

Let’s say you’re the President or CXO of a company and our team could add $25+ Million to your Net Income, at no net cost to your company (intelligent), just as we’ve done for a number of F500’s… BUT… your company needs to donate at least 10% to the Social Cause of Your Choice, from this new Net Income stream we create. This should be an extremely simple decision that would enable you to intelligently help 10,000+ people in real need. However:

A – Only 7% Will be all in and donate $10+ Million to St. Jude or another Non-Profit at no ($0.00) net cost to their company.

B – 30% Will appear on the surface, to consider the opportunity to Make A Significant Difference… but actually do very little.

C – 50% Will not put forth any effort, because personally… they, in their minds (albeit self-centered) are already “successful”.

D – 13% Won’t even comprehend the opportunity.

Imagine if everyone was given an amount of money at birth, that represented their potential. This At-Birth Wealth is provided without any effort whatsoever from them. The calculation for some of this At-Birth Wealth includes:

  • The socioeconomics of your parents.
  • Your natural IQ.
  • Your ability to afford as much education as needed.
  • The connections of your relatives and friends, who can help you.
  • Your <fill in the blank> that’s used to discriminate in favor of, or against you.

Here are 3 examples of what people can do with their At-Birth Wealth.

1 – Starting life with $500 Million Potential – Ending with $100 Million, while only donating $10 Million (2.0%) to Social Impact Initiatives.

    • Most will see them as being highly successful their entire lives.

2 – Starting life with $0.00 – Ending with $1 Million, while confidentially donating $50 Million (5,000%) to Social Impact Initiatives.

    • Most will see them as an Average Person.

3 – Starting life with $0.00 – Ending with $10 Million, while only donating $100 Thousand (1.0%) to Social Impact Initiatives.

    • Again, most will see them as being highly successful.

Why Are You Considered a Beautiful Person?

“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine

when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in,

their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”

– Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

pexels-felipe-silva-10001233

Do you subscribe to the cliché, “Beauty is only skin deep”? The multi-billion dollar beauty industry doesn’t.

Do you live your life, embracing this cliché… or, do you make decisions about your appearance, that somewhat-supports this cliché?

Hmmm… what is beauty… or is it determined by the eyes of the beholders?

Why do people consistently do photo shoots, which are certainly acceptable… and for some… quite possibly extremely helpful!? Hint:  2+2=4!

Most people attempt to use a hybrid model… preferring beauty to be both outside and inside. But, what if you had to lean 80% in one direction or the other. Would you prefer 80% outside or 80% inside (while forfeiting some of your outside (for inside) gifts bestowed upon you at birth)?

Yes; outside beauty is primarily a gift received at birth, through no effort on your part, other than to now maintain your corpus that you were gifted. This is relatively easy (compared to creating inside beauty), by simply eating reasonably well, exercising regularly and making healthy choices in life. All these steps are often just self-centered initiatives, which makes them even easier and motivational for people to actually do.

art-artsy-blue-1988698
beautiful-beauty-blur-1485548

The inside… now there’s where you need to work your ass off! To develop the depth and breadth of becoming beautiful inside, takes years and years. With much effort and tenacity, anyone can become a beautiful leader, partner and person in life!

Here’s a short list of “must haves” needed to become your most beautiful self, inside.

1 – Gently Frank Inner-Circle – They provide you frank information, not misleading affirmation, while also sharing what they’ll do to help you improve!

2 – Unquenched Appetite for Improvement – This competency changes your view of life and removes your defenses, which enables you to objectively and accurately sift through valuable and not-so-valuable feedback!

.

3 – Insatiable Appreciation for Life – If you wake up like a 7-year-old on your birthday everyday… everyone whom you interact, will be appreciated and you’ll count your numerous blessings… regardless of the challenges each day brings!

.

4 – Lastly and Most Importantly…. an Amazing Partner – Elusive… absolutely! But, you’ll never reach your most beautiful self without someone who’s genuinely and unconditionally helping you become your most beautiful self… inside! Period!

Is Social Media Helping You Improve the World?

“Social media is something of a double-edged sword.

.

At its best, social media offers unprecedented opportunities for marginalized people

to speak and bring much needed attention to the issues they face.

.

At its worst, social media also offers ‘everyone’ an unprecedented opportunity

to share in collective outrage without reflection.”

Roxane Gay

pexels-davide-de-giovanni-5762426

Does social media help you feel better about yourself?

Does liking popular content make you feel better?

Does posting content that is ‘Liked” many times, make you feel good?

Does social media… genuinely enable you to lead a significantly better, Purpose-Driven life?

What if, every time someone liked something on social media… they had to actually Do Something to improve the lives of another person?

Just imagine… instead of 3,000 “Likes”… we had 3,000 “Dids”!

Just imagine… instead of 100 “Celebrates”… we observed 100 “I’ll Do That Good Thing Too”!

Just imagine… instead of 1,000 executives commenting, to primarily create the appearance they, and possibly their organization, look good… they actually invested 1 hour of their personal time for each comment! (Not organizational time… since that’s already their job!)

pexels-ketut-subiyanto-4584665
pexels-snapwire-618613

One critical thing I learned in climbing the corporate ladder and now interacting with executives in organizations… sorry, but it’s not really that difficult and it’s quite self-beneficial. Further, we’re all just a cog in a tiny, tiny wheel (yes… regardless of your title and organization size). Your organization is a tiny cog on the wheel of the country. Which, in turn is merely a cog in the wheel called, “World”.

Sorry… your title has very little to do with leading a Purpose-Driven life.

Sorry… your title has very little to do with how generations to come, will view (or even remember) you!

Sorry… your title and opinions have very little to do with how the world continues to move day after day, with or without you!

Decisions and actions, beyond the paths that are most personally attractive to do (important)

that actually make the world a better place for others… these do matter!

So… how are you Doing?

It’s almost exclusively Top-7% Leaders who actually change the world.

Do You Have a Higher Purpose, for Your Unique Mind?

“And you would think with all of the genius

And the brilliance of these times

We might find a higher purpose

And a better use of mind”

– Jackson Browne, “Say It Isn’t True”

pexels-khoa-võ-5402130

.

What % of your mind’s potential, are you actually using?

The question is intentionally vague… to generate deeper thinking on your part… with no right or wrong answers.

Answering this question in compartmentalized ways, based on the various roles or compartments we’ve self-created in life, such as professional, personal and community, makes it a simpler question to answer.

.

.

Unfortunately… life isn’t simple and compartmentalized!

Life is holistically complex,

with every aspect of every role,

seamlessly integrated into our one, uniquely woven single person!

pexels-pao-jaramillo-9738087
pexels-ono-kosuki-5648103

.

What if…

  • We leveraged our collective genius?
  • We believed “the children are our future” and prioritized youth and younger adults accordingly?
  • We looked at Social Impact with eyes anew?
  • We provided genuine, unconditional love to more people… beside ourselves?

.

Sure… it’s a dream that is unlikely to happen… but; what if it did???

.

Again… what % of your mind’s potential, are you actually using?

What Have You Actually Accomplished?

“He has robbed me, yet he has given me something of greater value . . .

he has given to me… myself.”

― Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha

.

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”

― Ralph Waldo Emerson

pexels-cottonbro-5379178

Why did you, and others, choose to get educated?

Why did you, and others, choose to work hard?

Why did you, and others, strive to earn more money?

Why are you doing all these things?

Hmmm… let me guess… for the same reasons I did… to provide many self-centered benefits! Important sounding titles, beautiful corner offices, X thousand square foot homes in which most rooms are lightly used, etc.

Do you think you’ve accomplished a lot of important things… ? What have we really accomplished?

Hmmm… just maybe, -We- actually accomplished something called, “fitting in with everyone else”.

.

Isn’t this the fruit of the Self-Centered Tree… -We’ve- planted and meticulously nurtured for years at all costs… while hoping that it would provide plenty of fruit for -Us-?

.

But… some of us are cunning enough to manipulate this thing called, “fitting in with everyone else”… to look so much better than -Them-, by creating the appearance that we altruistically and angelically stand out amongst the crowd.

pexels-andrea-piacquadio-972995
pexels-shvets-production-7203724

How do they do it? They take some of their excess (not core or backup) fruit and share it with others, as though it’s their last penny. Little do others know, they have merely run out of room to hoard the fruit for themselves, so… why not create the appearance of looking good in the Public Eye?

This is a great way for them to create Power and increase their influence…

which procreates another season of fruit production for their self-centered, selves!

New Thought? – What if -We- changed our way of thinking and spent less time focused on -Ourselves- and more time accepting a comfortable, reasonably safe lifestyle, while sharing more graciously… as a result of our abundant blessings, dumb luck in many cases, etc.?

What if -We- invested in Making A Difference in other people’s lives… at -Our Own- core risk?

Just maybe, -We’d- accomplish something important called a Purpose-Driven Life…

or the Holy Grail of life that we all, deep down, search for our entire lives…

yet, naively don’t realize…

it is within everyone’s simple reach!

To that small percentage of leaders who consistently give from their core (not excess) time and resources…

on behalf of those who benefit, whom you are helping or will help, but who have no voice, “Thank You”!

.

Blessings!  ~ JR
