What’s the difference between Very Good and Amazing?
They sound close; but are miles apart and as different as night and day!
Have you had more than 1 whole year of Amazing in your life?
Amazing isn’t perfect! A key to finding this Unicorn called Amazing, is being able to appreciate and implement Holistic-DMQ (Decision Making Quality) aligned with everything you do… in total… not in separate compartments such as work, family, etc. Unicorns are awesome professionally, personally, in the community and everywhere in-between. Unicorns are unconditionally, for good reasons, Hype-Appreciative!
The problems with Amazing or Unicorns are plenty.
- Amazing makes it hard to breathe, since it takes your breath away!
- Very Good looks like an economy Kia while Amazing is an upscale Ferrari!
- Once you go Amazing… it’s tough, if not impossible, to return to Very Good!
- Amazing is so scary; we try our hardest to jettison Unicorns out of our lives before we fall in love with them… while eloquently justifying our decisions (thus; demonstrating our less-than-stellar Holistic-DMQ)!
- Amazing is so unorthodox and rare, that it’s hard to:
* Identify the Unicorns, before they pass us by.
* Understand Unicorns, since most of the “scripts” we have are aligned with Average or Very Good.
* Appreciate Unicorns, since they’re so different and seem so odd, compared to social norms.
* Hold onto Unicorns, because… you too, must be a Unicorn to see another Unicorn, and… both must, as difficult as it can be, remain Unicorns.
So… what makes Unicorns so different? What is the DNA that differentiates them?
- They thrive in chaos, unknowns and unorthodox situations, because they:
* Are Hyper-Appreciative knowing there aren’t words to actually describe how special and rare Amazing is!
* Know that nothing lasts forever, so they want to seize these, possibly once-in-a-lifetime, opportunities… despite the reality that even Unicorns are not perfect!
* Know they must improve themselves and their thinking; or, forfeit what could be!
- They nourish your soul during the Windows of Amazing, without worrying how long each Window of Amazing will be open (but deeply miss them when they end).
- Their depth of love is deeper than most. Thus; when less-than-stellar things happen, instead of making less-than-stellar decisions or over-reacting, they calmly understand and Hyper-Appreciate the holistic, big-picture.
- They think further ahead, reflect further behind than most.
- They are Hyper-Appreciative in their actions and decisions, while using a Cumulative-Relationship-DMQ style.
- They not only accept, but crave constructive criticism from Unicorns in their life.
How many unicorns have you been blessed to have in your life?
Professionally, I’ve been blessed with 3.5 and personally with 1.5. Each, has literally changed my life for Amazingly better. Sadly; nothing lasts forever, but wow how awesome it was at the time, either professionally or personally!

In the song “Lucky Man” by Emerson, Lake & Palmer the lyric “Ooooh, what a lucky man he was” describes how blessed I’ve been to have Unicorns come into my life for Windows of Amazing!
The secret to finding Amazing, is quite simply… Holistic-DMQ! When we make decisions that sub-optimize our opportunities for Amazing… we end up with a few, less-than-stellar options:
- Average to Very Good… but, not Amazing.
- Amazing professionally, but not personally; or, vise versa.
- Decisions that max out our potential at 9.0 (Scale 0.0 to 10.0); while Amazing is in the 9.1 or higher range.
- Easily fitting into social norms, it’s less work, etc., but not Amazing.
So… what should we do when we find a Unicorn?
Change for the better or forfeit the opportunity!
Stark? Yes!
