“A person who sees a problem is a human being;
a person who finds a solution is visionary;
and the person who goes out and does something about it is an entrepreneur.”
~ Naveen Jain

How many times have you been presented with exceptional opportunities, but didn’t pursue them, until… each, finally became mainstream?
What does Solutions Aversion Disease (SAD) look like? Most leaders (84%, per the objective, Standard Bell-Curve) avoid implementing new solutions for as long as they possibly can, while substituting, currently acceptable rationale for continuing to do what has always been done. They do this, as long as they don’t appear, to be suffering from Solutions Avoidance Disease.
However; Solutions Avoidance Disease has already set in firmly, few leaders, once infected, will ever be cured during their entire career. The price they pay… a lifetime of various opportunities forfeited!
Solutions Avoidance Disease has many glaring symptoms, including:
- Admiring mavericks in their industry publicly, but not actually implementing these new solutions in their organizations.
- Becoming more entrenched in the status-quo through their actual decisions, while talking about theoretically implementing new solutions.
- Failing to prioritize new solutions and support them with the proper resources so they’re “right” about the solutions not working. They get the best of both world’s by providing the veiled beauty of being “right” while simultaneously sabotaging the solutions, to make sure the new solutions don’t work.
- Implementing new solutions, eventually, only after:
- The tipping point for a new solution is reached and these leaders would look “bad” if they didn’t implement the new solution; or,
- They are forced through necessity to implement a new solution or suffer significant consequences personally(but will package the solution as being necessary for professional reasons).

What is the price that is paid, as a result of Executive Leaders / people suffering from Solutions Avoidance Disease?
- Personally; so many opportunities are forfeited, ultimately leading to an overall life ranging from “Average” to “Very Good”.
- Professionally, so many opportunities are forfeited, ultimately leading to, objectively, a “Mediocre” career.
What are the costs of Solutions Avoidance Disease suffered by leaders at Non-Profits?
Millions of dollars are forfeited each years, resulting in:
- No additional, badly needed meals for the hungry!
- No additional, badly needed clean water for the thirsty!
- No additional, badly needed shelter for the homeless!
- No additional, badly needed abuse counseling for the physically and / or mentally abused!
- No etc., for those who genuinely need a hand-up!
Intriguing… Overall; the 1,000’s negatively affected by the Non-Profit Executives’ decisions…
are those in desperate need, for the services the Non-Profit was in theory, originally established to help!
What are the costs of Solutions Avoidance Disease suffered by leaders at For-Profit companies?
Billions of dollars are forfeited each year, resulting in:
- The risk of being acquired by another company, due to under-performance, and 25%+ of the loyal employees losing their jobs.
- The best employees leaving, while being replaced by “Average” talent, resulting in the organization becoming entrenched in “Average”.
- The inability to donate millions more dollars to Social Impact initiatives that improve 1,000’s of lives, elevate the company’s PR status and help the company attract better, well-rounded, intelligent talent.
Key: Most companies donate enough to “look good enough”.
This is a common characteristic of Executive Leaders suffering from Solutions Avoidance Disease!

What does Rehabilitation look like for curing this dreaded Solution Avoidance Disease? Here are a few keys.
- Learning to implement new solutions intelligently, fearlessly and in non-self-centered ways.
- Realizing new solutions are not about you (the leader); but about what you can do for others as a result of the new solutions being implemented effectively.
- Self-centered leaders / people are incapable of being rehabilitated… unless, they acknowledge they are self-centered.
- Adding a Challenge Network to your Jugular Decision-Making Team. This complements your Support Team who typically affirms both your “Good” and “Not-So-Good” decisions, while misleadingly, helping to support your self-esteem no matter how bad your decisions.
