“I’ve been a victim of a selfish kind of love
It’s time that I realize
That there are some with no home
Not a nickel to loan
Could it be really me pretending that they’re not alone?
.
A willow deeply scarred
Somebody’s broken heart
And a washed – out dream (Washed – out dream)
They follow the pattern of the wind, ya’ see
Cause they got no place to be
.
That’s why I’m starting with me”
“Man in the Mirror” — Michael Jackson — Songwriters: Glen Ballard, Siedah Garrett

If you had the opportunity to live your life over again… would you take more, give more or take and give about the same?
There really isn’t a “right” answer to this question. We don’t get to live our lives over again; but, it can take us a while to begin figuring out how best to live our lives.
If you’ve convinced yourself, that you’d take more or give and take about the same…
this blog probably isn’t for you.
Sure… life can be difficult, arduous and seemingly unfair at times. How do these challenging times make you feel? What happens when people take a big “slice of pie” and you’re left with just the crumbs? This has probably happened and will continue to happen to you, many times in your life.
Earlier in my life, I busted my ass to make sure I earned every opportunity available. Yes; I was a Taker; although my self-justification was that it was earned. A Taker… nonetheless.
Light switch gets clicked on mid-life. Does it really matter what we have, other than integrity, enough stuff and to be loved by those whom we love?
.
Now… that is an extremely rare, Amazing combination!
Fascinatingly; for many, because others have treated us poorly, took big slices of the pie and left just crumbs, etc., their negative impact on us, actually changed the course of our lives, how we think and what decisions we make moving forward.

So… why consider being a better Giver of your:
- Time?
- Talents?
- Willingness to just listen?
- Helping hands?
- Etc.?
Just maybe…
- Giving changes lives… starting with our own!
- Giving changes how we see the world… starting with our role in it!
- Giving provides a booster shot of Mental Health Serum to people … starting with a booster to our mental health!
- Giving demonstrates genuine appreciation for people… starting with appreciation for what we have!
- Giving opens our eyes to differences among people… starting with our own differences!
Paradoxically, I believe, Giving is the most self-centered thing you can do… because it provides you the privilege to lead a Purpose-Driven life… the greediest gift one could ever give to one’s self!
