How Are You Allocating Your Self-Care Time?

“There is no worse bitterness than to reach the end of your life,

and realize… you have not lived.”

Why do so many people struggle with self-care?

Just maybe… there are many definitions of self-care, created by many different influencers… with none of them being wrong… and none of them being right!

Complex topics, such as self-care, need to be thoroughly and uniquely examined,

to unearth the common threads of healthy, customizable success.

.

Unfortunately, many (not all) so-called self-care professionals, often provide canned answers while attempting to appear, to have your best interest in mind, who also happen to be considered physically attractive by most and routinely do photoshoots to create wonderful images suggesting, “this is what self-care looks like”.

Superficial images from people telling you to focus on yourself… are wonderful soundbites, are quite popular on social media and are usually highly effective, as has been demonstrated by PR efforts at organizations in nearly every industry, for years!

Since this PR approach effectively creates Revenues for their organizations… and I have an MBA… I get it. For most (not all), it’s more about them (just try getting their products or services without paying)… than the person who actually needs the self-care help. Who can disagree with this eloquent, capitalistic and effective marketing?

However; what if self-care started and ended with selfless leadership that paradoxically provided an abundance of self-care? Imagine, by intelligently (important!) giving of yourself, this provided more self-care, than any other approach!

What if every self-care initiative had at least these three common threads:

  • Appreciation for who you are, what you have and the privilege to change others’ lives!
  • Unconditional love!
  • No need to get the credit, just wonderful gifts flowed into those in need, without anyone knowing you helped!

So… how do you allocate your time to lead a self-caring, purpose-driven life?

Hard Question:  How are you allocating your time between self-serving interests and purpose-driven, others-oriented activities?

Take 365 days, multiply by 24 hours and then draw your personal pie chart. Create one pie slice for, “changing other people’s lives” (who aren’t family and aren’t a primary focus of your income-producing job), to see how big or small, that pie slice is actually, for you. Hint: 88 hours a year, represents, just 1% of your time and 10% is 876 hours.

Unorthodoxly-Amazing… is just that…

Unorthodox, as very few will understand your decisions…

yet, the only pathway to an Amazing life…

that most, will simply forfeit while they’re busy fitting into

mainstream, mediocre thinking!
