DEI+ Leadership… How Much Will WE Really Change?

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion+ (DEI+) is a popular topic these days.

 

Why is it so popular? Is it really creating sustainable, positive social change?

 

The answer to this question… is as unique as the answerer’s perspective on life.

In launching our 100,000+ DEI Scholarships’ Initiative over the past few months, we’ve made a number of observations. They may surprise many, but leaders at the 9.x+ level, will probably only raise an eyebrow.

Why wouldn’t a university want $10, $50 or even $100+ Million for DEI Scholarships… especially, since our teams are doing 98% of the  work for the universities… and have a 20+ year track record of phenomenal success?

 

Q:  What types of leaders, are actually committed to supporting DEI+ initiatives?

A:  Every demographic, males, females, black people, white people, etc.

Thus; overall… we see the 93% / 7% Principle playing out… yet again (vs. specific demographics). Only 7% of the people… actually change the world… in the hopes… that many of the 93% will follow… so together… we will change the world for the better!

 

In filtering through 50+ conversations with 6 and 7-figure executives… we’ve noticed 2 keys to successful DEI+ Leadership.

  1. The leader must actually want to help other people besides primarily just themselves.
  2. The leader must actually have the ability and commitment to actually do something… beside talk, post, etc.

Pretty low bar? No… turns out… these two attributes, sadly, are quite a high bar, that most people in leadership positions (but, non-leaders in reality) struggle to achieve!

 

Q:  So, why all the talk, posts, etc., from just about every organization on DEI+?

 

A:  Succinctly… for many… Power! Here’s the basic formula. The people in power… want to maintain personal power… and know they need to appear (vs. actually do what needs done) to support DEI+ initiatives… in order to maintain their personal organizational power. Sigh!

Q:  So… how do you or WE differentiate between those committed to DEI+ and those committed to merely maintaining personal power and appearing to support DEI+?

A:  Succinctly… Execution-Excellence! Who is actually doing everything that actually needs done (vs. just talking, posting, etc.)!

 

Bottom-Line:  It’s up to the Top-7%’ers to actually get intelligent DEI+ infrastructures in place in organizations… on the hopes that most of the other 93%’ers actually follow! So… Together… WE actually and sustainably… change the world!
